The Theatre Festival in Cyprus Opens Its Doors in 2025!

Cyprus Theatre Festival 2025 as part of the European Co-Funded Project THEATRE IN PALM – Information and Participation Guidelines 

The Cyprus Theatre Festival, organized by THOC, will take place from April 10 to 13, 2025, at the Theatre Apothikes THOC in Nicosia. This event is a celebration of theatrical art, centered around the themes of CARE, IDENTITY, and ISLANDS. It is held within the framework of the European co-funded project titled “THEATRE IN PALM”. 

The festival aims to strengthen collaboration among emerging artists from across Europe, offering a platform to showcase innovative and culturally expressive performances. 

Performances will be held in a black-box theatre, with each piece lasting 20-40 minutes maximum. Artists are encouraged to create small-scale productions that embrace creativity while adapting to the festival’s modular set design. 

How to Get Started 

To participate, you’ll need to prepare a proposal that aligns with the festival’s themes and adheres to its specific guidelines. Here’s what you’ll need to consider: 

1. Choose Your Performance 

Select a performance that fits the festival’s themes of CARE, IDENTITY, and ISLANDS. It should involve a small cast and have a duration of 20-40 minutes. Emerging artists are highly encouraged to participate. 

2. LanguageRequirements 
   Your performance can be in English or your native language, but if it’s the latter, you must provide English subtitles. Translation and subtitle equipment are your responsibility, though the festival will supply projection tools. 

3. Technical Considerations  

Each participant must submit a technical rider, detailing lighting, sound, and staging needs. The festival will pair you with a local light designer to run the shows, ensuring smooth execution. 

Adapting to the Festival’s Set 

The festival’s venue, Theatre Apothikes, offers a modular stock set designed by Petros Kourtellaris under the mentorship of Harris Kafkarides. This set is movable and flexible, allowing quick changes between performances. Designs will be shared in advance so your creative team can incorporate them into your vision. 

Support 

CUBE will cover the  

• Travel 

• Accommodation  

• Daily Expenses Costs.  

THOC will provide: 

• The theatre space and technical support. 

• Assistance with accommodation and transportation details. 

• Promotional activities for the festival. 

Key Deadlines 

• December 18, 2024: Submit your proposal by 18^th of December 2024 by filling the form with all the information needed by following the link: https://forms.office.com/e/QiFDF4rFCK  

• First Week of January 2025: CUBE will inform you about the selection of your proposal.  

Steps to Participate 

To simplify, here’s a step-by-step guide: 

• Step 1: Understand the festival’s themes (CARE, IDENTITY, ISLANDS) and select an appropriate performance. 

• Step 2: Prepare your technical and lighting riders, ensuring compatibility with the festival’s modular set. 

• Step 3: Submit your initial details by December 18, 2024. 

• Step 4: Receive a notification from CUBE First week of January 2025. 

• Step 5: If your proposal is approved you will receive an email to organize a meeting with CUBE. 

• Step 6: Travel and accommodation arrangements. 

• Step 7: Arrive in Cyprus, rehearse with the festival team, and present your performance.
